This calendar contains what you need to know from astrology to orient yourself through the year. This year has an emphasis on the work of Maria Thun who passed away in 2012. The calendar will assist you on choosing days for diferent tasks in agriculture and gardening, as well as beekeeping.

The biodynamic calendar is the product of work of Maria Thun and improved by her son Matthias Thun. The basis for the calendar are the texts of Rudolf Steiner, a philosopher who outlined the biodynamic method. Although we can not claim that he is the founder of this method, he did set its philosophical and practical foundations in the biodynamic and natural farming alike.
Also called an astrological calendar, this calendar does use the moon position to establish the effect of the stellar bodies on the soil, plants and animals (also humans!). But unlike many peoples from the past that used astrology in agriculture the method of pinpointing the moon effects is correlated with the twelve zodiac signs! Many refer to these effects, the effects of constellations as cosmic influences.

The biodynamic calendar in general is a powerful tool in an arsenal of an experienced gardener or farmer. But when using it we must also keep other influences on our minds! If a day is good for sowing, harvesting, cultivation or any work, we must see the big picture, meaning the influence of weather, sun, wind, time and so on. Only a careful application will result in maximum benefit.
But do not hesitate to guide your work with the help of the calendar! A simple sowing at the right time will help your crops to emerge much sooner! A simple change of day will help you work with less aggressive bees! And a simple orientation on the calendar will help you set up interactions with humans to maximize their effect (yes, the planets also effect humans)!
The effects of cosmic forces, as we named them earlier is seen quickly and with no doubt! When to sow, when to harvest and when to work with our objects of interest has a great impact upon the effects we desire!

We sow, plant, transplant (replant), hoe, as well as treat and harvest plants on the days they need.
Root plants, such as beet, potatoes, onions, carrots, radish, celery, garlic thrive on the days of root.
Leaf plants such as spinach, lettuce, asparagus etc thrive on the days of the leaf.
Flower plants, for example plants we want to keep flowering for a while, such as oil plants thrive on the day of the flower.
Fruit plants (not fruits, but those that bear fruit) such as beans, cucumbers, pumpkins, corn, tomatoes, zuccinies, strawberries, fruit trees, berries in general thrive on the day of the fruit.

A vital part of biodynamic beekeeping is also using the Biodynamic calendar to determine the mood of bees for certain beekeeping tasks we do! Below i will list the most common effects of Moon and zodiac signs on beekeeping:
- Flower days are great for bee reproduction
- Root days are meant for comb building
- Fruit days are meant for collecting honey
- Leaf days are not great for working with bees
